The Conversation AI

From Martin LaMonica, former technology journalist and science editor for The Conversation, currently Director of Editorial Projects and Newsletters:

Dear reader,
We at The Conversation are keen to know what questions you have about AI and types of stories you want to read.

To tell us, please fill out this very short questionnaire. I’ll share your responses (no names or emails will be attached) with the editors to help guide our coverage going forward.

The Conversation AI is different than most newsletters on artificial intelligence. We will, of course, cover how the technology is evolving and its many applications.

But our editors and expert authors do more – they look broadly at the impact this powerful technology is having on society, whether it’s new ethical and regulatory questions, or changes to the workplace. Also, our academic writers approach this subject from a variety of disciplines and from universities around the world, bringing you a global perspective on this hot issue.

Tech Policy Press

At a time of great challenge to democracies globally, we seek to advance a pro-democracy movement in tech and tech policy.

Our goal is to provoke new ideas, debate and discussion at the intersection of technology, democracy and policy, with a particular focus on:

Concentrations of power: the interaction of tech platforms, governments and the media and the future of the public sphere;

Geopolitics of technology: how nation states approach technology in the pursuit of advantage;• Technology and the economy: the relationship between markets, business, and labor;

Racism, bigotry, violence & oppression: how tech exacerbates or solves such challenges; • Ethics of Technology: how technology should be viewed alongside existing democratic ethos, especially with regard to privacy, surveillance and personal freedoms;

• Election integrity & participation: mechanisms of democracy, problems such as disinformation and how citizens come to consensus.

Benedict Evans

What happened in tech that mattered, and what did it mean? Once a week, I send an email newsletter to close to 200,000 people – I pick out the changes and ideas you don’t want to miss in all the noise, and give them context and analysis.

What matters in tech? What’s going on, what might it mean, and what will happen next?

I’ve spent 20 years analysing mobile, media and technology, and worked in equity research, strategy, consulting and venture capital. I’m now an independent analyst. Mostly, that means trying to work out what questions to ask.

I write essays about things I’m trying to understand, and a weekly newsletter with 175,000 subscribers, and give presentations pulling together these ideas.
